Saint Patrick didn’t drink Irish Coffee. He was born in Roman occupied Brittan in the 5th century. Most scholars believe he was born in what today is considered Scottland. Magnonus Sucatus as he was born was sold into slavery before escaping. Later, renamed Patricius the noblemen. Saint Patrick spent his life imparting religion to the heathens.
Most modern studies of Saint Patrick follow a variant of T. F. O’Rahilly’s “Two Patricks” theory. That is to say, many of the traditions later attached to Saint Patrick originally concerned Palladius, who Prosper of Aquitaine’s Chronicle says was sent by Pope Celestine I as the first bishop to Irish Christians in 431. |
