Mardi Gras 2012 Drink Recipes

The #1 drink at Mardi Gras is the Hurricane. There are many different Hurricane recipes but they all come down to a couple key ingredients rum (and lots of it) and fruit juice. Below is a great hurricane recipe plus a few other fun party drinks.

Mardi Gras Hurricane

  • 1 oz light rum
  • 1 oz gold rum
  • 1/2 oz passion fruit syrup
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • ice
  1. Fill drink shaker with ice
  2. Add light rum to shaker
  3. Add gold rum to shaker
  4. Add passion fruit syrup and lime juice
  5. Shake until drink is cold
  6. Strain into hurricane glass

New Orleans Hurricane

  • 2 oz. Bacardi Light Rum
  • 1 oz. Bacardi 151
  • 2 oz. Passion Fruit Concentrate
  • 8 oz. 7-Up
  • 1 oz. Lime Juice
  1. Add ice to a drink shaker
  2. Shake all except 151
  3. Pour liquid into a Hurricane
  4. Float 151 on top

Mardi Gras Hurricane Recipe Variations

If you want to shake things up, vary the hurricane drink recipe a little by adding lemon juice, an orange or lemon slice and a maraschino cherry. You can also change the ingredients buy adding vodka, coconut rum, amaretto and triple sec. All of these variations are acceptable and delicious but why mess with the original.
